4GROW wishes to thank ARISE, a ministry of Christian Fellowship Assembly in Alberta, Canada, for their significant contributions of furnishings, educational supplies, and teachers’ salaries to the GROW nursery program. ARISE has also sponsored several children to attend boarding school. Their longstanding and meaningful financial assistance has helped both the GROW preschool children and older students for many years.
4GROW extends warm appreciation to the Peterborough Medical Brigade (PMB), a volunteer organization of medical professionals who offer medical and dental aid in needy communities around the world. Their valuable medical assistance and compassionate care for our beneficiaries cannot be overstated. In partnership with 4GROW, the Peterborough Medical Brigade has held three campaigns to date in the Teso District of Uganda.
During each twelve-day mission, they have brought desperately needed medical and dental care and supplies to 4GROW beneficiaries at seven pre-arranged clinic locations. Our focus groups are notified in advance, of clinic dates and locations, held at the GROW compound in Tilling as well as in the villages of Kobwin, Kumi, Kidongoli and Bukedea.
Up to 1250 people are examined and treated during each campaign, and at the end of each campaign the PMB has left about $200,000 worth of donated medications and supplies, which are kept in a secured dispensary at the GROW compound.
After returning to Canada from their February 2017 Uganda mission, as a further gesture of friendship the PMB proceeded to raise $8,000.00 to fund the construction of a new well close to a school in the community of Kobwin. During the construction and implementation process, 4GROW made a great effort to ensure accountability and good workmanship, as well as to promote community contribution and ownership of the well project. Addressing these concerns before construction was a key to ensuring that the well will serve the school and community for a long time. The well became operational in May 2018, making clean water available to approximately 2500 families! A dedication ceremony took place, and a plaque next to the well attests to the community’s appreciation to the PMB for their outstanding gift.
Phoebe is a special two year old Ugandan girl whom we first met in February, 2019.
She presented to our clinic, malnourished, anemic, with a colostomy draining feces down her abdomen.
This was a result of surgery to relieve a rectal obstruction present at birth,
The Brigade arranged to have the colostomy reversed in a local hospital. During surgical preparation Phoebe developed respiratory distress.
Surgery was cancelled and further investigation revealed the presence of a congenital heart condition called Tetrology of Fallot.
Phoebe now requires major cardiac surgery. This will cost substantially more than her rectal operation. Without this she will die in the next few years.
The Peterborough Medical Brigade is committed to helping this child receive her surgeries.
WE HAVE REACHED THAT GOAL.!!! THANKS TO YOUR GENEROUS DONATIONS! THE TWELVE THOUSAND DOLLAR TARGET HAS BEEN REACHED.
With the help of 4GROW and GROW (Grace for Rural Orphans and Widows) Phoebe will be able to have her corrective surgery in the next few months.
The generosity of our Canadian donors has truly amazed us. Truly we are all united in our compassion and care for those that are less fortunate.
We will keep everyone informed as to her progress.
